Winchester City Council says it
firmly believes in the city's Business Excellence
Awards and that's why it's sponsoring the Creative
Innovation category this year.
The awards have proved effective
in focusing on the best of the city's array of
businesses and highlighting their achievements,
said Kate Crawford, who is the council's economic
development manager.
The authority is continuing to support
the awards because they raise the profile of the
"excellent work" done in and around the district,
she added. The awards also set a high level of
achievement to which new and growing businesses
might aspire.
"They provide further publicity
and recognition of businesses which the community
should be proud to have in the area," said Miss
Crawford, who confirmed the city council's commitment
to developing the prosperity of the district and
working towards a strong and diverse urban and
rurual economy which built on local strengths
and offered opportunities for all.
The authority is part of the Local
Strategic Partnership, which also has a commitment
to creating and sustaining a thriving, broad-based
economy that integrates business, education, and
industry and provides prosperity, jobs and decent
homes within the district, for the benefit of
all.
With this in mind, a number of key
partners have come together to support the Winchester
Business Excellence Awards. Both the council's
economic development unit and its partners are
working hard to write and implement the Winchester
Economic Action Plan.
The plan will co-ordinate stakeholder
work and forge links between the business support
and other agencies. Part of the plan is to recognise
the achievements of businesses and share these
with others as examples of best practice.
"We're particularly keen to promote
the efforts of our creative industries and those
pioneering new technologies or methods or working",
said Miss Crawford. "This could be through innovative
design of products or taking a new approach to
a challenge faced by the business. We want to
see both imagination and the confidence to persevere
with innovative methods or design. "This skill
is vital if businesses are to retain their competitive
advantage." .
