Award for the Winchester Business Excellence Awards
have short listed their category down to a final
4.

“The finalists in the Rural Business of the
Year category have all shown an outstanding commitment
to the rural economy and choosing a winner will
be a real challenge. This year the winning business
will have to be able to demonstrate a balance
between competitive trading and a responsibility
to the local environment and community.”
Riverford Home
Riverford Home Delivery - Hants (RHD Hants) is
a franchise of Riverford Organic Vegetables. The
owners John & Gill McLaren are based at Riverford
on Upper Norton Farm, Sutton Scotney. Organic
vegetables are grown on the farm and also delivered
in from other organic growers. The produce is
packed into reusable boxes on site, and from a
standing start in 2001; RHD Hants now delivers
1500 boxes a week of fresh, seasonal organic vegetables
and organic foods to households across Hampshire.
Longbarn Growers
Long Barn Growers are an independent company specialising
in the growing and distribution of Lavender and
products. The company now includes an award winning
green oak barn in Alresford which is surrounded
by natural lavender. The building is home to a
plant nursery and their unique range of toiletries,
products and locally sourced home and garden wares.
On site they also have a lavender beauty treatment
room. The lavender fields are still maintained
without the use of chemicals, in tune with their
ethos: respect for the countryside, responsible
sourcing and no artificial additives.
Cresson Creative
Based in the UK’s watercress capital of Alresford,
Cresson Creative’s aim is to provide fresh,
local and seasonal foods which are always delicious,
creative and good for you. Many feature watercress
in different guises and, as a major champion of
the local produce, one of the missions is to innovate
the versatile ways that this nationally recognised
‘superfood’ can be integrated into people’s
diets. Not only do they provide a unique, seasonal
product range but they also supply a comprehensive
and tailored catering service to complement a
wide range of events.
Wessex Conference Centre
The Wessex Conference Centre is the collective
name for a group of venues based on the Sparsholt
College campus. The center is set in beautiful
Hampshire countryside and situated ten minutes
outside of Winchester with excellent transport
links. Their association with all things land-based
means that their activities automatically take
into consideration environment and animal friendly
issues and are friendly to the surrounding communities,
as well as the businesses within the community.
The Conference Centre offers affordable space,
from meetings and corporate events to celebrations
and weddings.
